Set It and Forget It: Structured Content in WordPress with the Pods Framework
January 21, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Things change rapidly in the WordPress world. The content in this post is more than a year old and may no longer represent best practices.
For a content-heavy website, you have to go beyond the WYSIWYG to focus on what’s important — the content. Structured content helps with consistency in content as well as layout.
There are multiple methods of building structured content in WordPress. The Pods Framework is a powerful way to “set it and forget it!” Focus on your content and relax about the layout.
We will discuss:
- Reasons for using Pods over solutions like ACF
- Custom taxonomies and custom post types in Pods
- Setting up Pods templates with “Magic Tags”
- Using conditionals in Pods templates to format layouts depending on available content
- Using Pods shortcodes to build pages with structured content
We’ll run through a case study of an archive website using Pods custom taxonomy, custom post types, templates, and shortcodes on the IA Summit conference website.
